Marcely Jean-Pierre, one of the recent additions to Study Hall, has been performing for several years now. He was on a member of various improv teams at Philly Improv Theater and is also a big part of NYTEShift, a comedy group comprised of all POC performers. Yesterday Marcely shared a a different side in video he created with Be Like Buddy, a service that provides free social skills videos and more for parents of children on the autism spectrum.
As Be Like Buddy creator Dan Kalinowski says, “His goal is to make learning a preferred activity by blending evidence-based practices with loads of silliness. Visual schedules, behavior modeling, token economies, and social stories are used to help the puppet, Buddy, master new skills in a joyful way!”
Marcely shared his video and had this to say, “I used to watch Disney shows with my niece and would always say that I could never do that type of acting because of how much energy it takes to be that chipper and corny. But when I was asked to do this project to help teach social skills to children with autism, I couldn’t say no and I’m glad I didn’t. ‘Be Like Buddy’ videos have been a great resource for parents and teachers of kids on the spectrum.” You can check out Marcely’s video below.
