Crossroads Comedy Theater is so happy to announce that we are adding a FREE improv jam to our first run of shows this weekend! The Free Improv Jam at the Crossroads will be 6pm on Saturday, June 12th at Theatre Exile located at 1340 S. 13th Street.

We’re also super excited to have two fantastic hosts for this month’s jam – Jabari Dortch (Whiplash) and Marcely Jean-Pierre (Study Hall, Not Yet Rated, NYTEShift). These two hilarious performers are not just experienced improvisers, but they also have a great, positive, fun energy about them and are both super supportive. Traits the host of any improv jam should possess.

Improv jams are a huge part of the growth of individual improvisers and the improv scene as a whole. They allow for some stage time to gain some experience and put the lessons and notes into practice. They also serve as a great place for indie teams to form as people see others they like watching perform. As co-host of the jam, Jabari says “Improv jams can be very helpful for a performer’s development. In jams you have a chance to practice the different skills you’ve learned in front of a supportive crowd.”

The guidelines will be similar to jams you’ve likely attended in the before times with one big addition – you will need to be fully vaccinated to participate. There will be a sign up sheet available about 10 minutes before the jam begins. You will sign up with your name and experience level. If you’ve attended any training schools you can list the highest level you’ve completed. If you’re totally inexperienced – no worries! Jabari assures that “we’ll match you up with a more veteran improviser that can help you in the scene. We got your back!” There will also be some rules laid out at the top to ensure the jam is a fun, supportive, and safe space for all to play.

See you at the Crossroads!
