One of the things I always stress when talking to people about improv is how useful it is in all walks of life. It’s not just for actors or comedians looking to expand their skill set. Improv is for everyone. We have had teachers, engineers, lawyers, cashiers, doctors, baristas, and so many more people from all different jobs and backgrounds. People looking to improve their listening skills, learn to compromise, build self confidence, get use to being in front of crowds, and to think faster on their feet.

Yesterday President Biden introduced his pick to fill the Supreme Court seat being left by retiring Associate Justice Stephen Breyer. His pick was Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. If confirmed, Judge Brown Jackson would be the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court! As word of her nomination became official and news outlets began to drop their “Who IS Ketanji Brown Jackson?” pieces, one thing kept popping up – she has a background in improv!

While a student at Harvard, Judge Brown Jackson was on their improv team “On Thin Ice.” I don’t know that we’ll ever get to see any of those performances (and probably best we don’t), but it’s pretty incredible knowing that an improviser is going to be sitting a member of the highest court in the land. Here is a link to a recent Washington Post article that discusses how she navigates here way through conflict and compromise. If that sounds like an tenet of improv, it is!

To celebrate this historic nomination and the connection to improv we are offering $50 off our intro classes now through Monday. Just use the code SCOTUS at checkout. You can check out our online and in person class options below.

Hope to see you in a class, at a show, or on the Supreme Court soon!

Thanks!
