After the pandemic put the kibosh on planned Halloween performances for both 2021 and 2022, we are thrilled to finally be able to take the stage to present a week of programming to get you into the Halloween spirit. We have various types of improv, our first original sketch comedy show, live music, storytelling, special guests, and more!
The extended runs of our programming are the performances of Not Yet Rated: An Improvised Horror Comedy and A Nightmare on Jawn Street: Liberty Hell. This is Not Yet Rated’s first live Halloween run since 2019. The show put on virtual performances in 2020 to great reception, but there’s nothing like the live show. Liberty Hell follows the style of 2019’s A Nightmare on Jawn Street directed by Mike Marbach and will feature fun sketches written with horror movies as the inspiration. A Nightmare on Jawn Street: Liberty Hell is directed by James Knight (Not Yet Rated, Study Hall) with Joe Tuzzi (Extree Extree) serving as Head Writer.
In addition to the above we have a live album performance from Joe Moore’s new album “The Mummy Forgot the Chips,” Nick Gillette improvising scary stories in The Story So Far, The Sideshow Halloween Special, and Study Hall-oween: Comedy Inspired by Spooky Lectures.
On the non-spoopy side of things we’re so very excited to welcome a one night only performance from the amazing improv duo of Kornfeld & Andrews on Friday, 10/21. This is their first trip down to Philly in several years and is not to be missed. We are also very happy to announce that on Saturday October 22nd we are sponsoring night two of Philly Sketchfest! This night will feature a variety of sketch acts from Philly and beyond. For more info visit PhillySketchFest.com or follow them on Instagram @PhillySketchFest.
And don’t sleep on our upcoming classes down below. Dramatic Improv with Nick Gillette is nearly sold out and our various intro classes are going fast! Whether you take a class or see a show or both, we thank you for supporting our theater and live (undead) comedy in Philly.
LOCATION: Plays & Players Theatre, Skinner Studio (3rd Floor), 1714 Delancey Place, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Quig’s Pub will be open! This is NOT a BYOB venue. Plays & Players is unfortunately not an accessible space.Â
COVID PRECAUTIONS: Audience members will be required to wear a mask while in the building. All staff and volunteers will be vaccinated and masked. All performers will be vaccinated and masked when not on stage.
Why see one show when you can see them all! This pass includes access to every single Crossroads Comedy Theater show in October for one low price – a $200 value for our most loyal show goers. Limited to just 10 passes! Note this pass is good for Crossroads Comedy Theater shows only and not shows produced by Plays & Players, Philly Sketchfest, or the Art Museum.Â
Get into the Halloween spirit with this special, Halloween edition of Study Hall! This night will feature lectures focused on the creepy, the crawly, and all things that go bump in the night. This long-running comedy show mixes real lectures with improv comedy to create a show that is both entertaining and educational. Lectures inspire the scenes that the amazing cast create right before your eyes.Â
Study Hall will also be appearing at the Art Museum on 10/28 as part of their special Halloween programming. More info on that soon. This is our second year partnering with the Art Museum. If you want us to play at your party, business, or event – let us know!

It’s a gruesome twosome of Halloween fun! This block features a performance from Nick Gillette’s “The Story So Far” and “Joe Moore’s Explodin’ Halloween Garage.”
THE STORY SO FAR:Â The muse takes a hold of the wheel in this rolling improvised freestyle verse performance. This Nick Gillette solo project showcases a storyteller who has dropped the act of being in control of the story. Always live, never the same twice, one night only.Â
JOE MOORE’S EXPLODIN’ HALLOWEEN GARAGE:Â Comedian Joe Moore has spent the last year working in his lab and is pleased to present a new album “The Mummy Forgot the Chips and Other Lo-Fi Novelty Halloween Songs For a New Generation”. Featuring psychedelic drum machines, far-out distortion pedals, and a microphone packed with crusty playdough – Â it’s a garage rock universe full of tricks and treats! With an assembled band of Frankensteins, Dracula, Werewolves, and Witches, Joe believes he has one last chance to save both rock and roll and Halloween at the same time. But he can’t do it without you!Â
Step right up…if you aren’t too scared! This edition of The Sideshow: A Comedy Variety Show is our Halloween special full of fun and spooky acts. Sketch comedy, stand-up, storytelling, variety, and all manner of tricks and treats are possible in one block for one low price.Â
