Returning will be Not Yet Rated: An Improvised Horror Comedy. This annual hit comedy show mixes classic horror movies and your suggestions to create a completely improvised “movie” right before your yes. This year’s show is a legacy sequel of sorts with Stay Dead!‘s Tom Hannigan returning to the horror comedy world, this time as director. This year’s run stars Keane Cobb, Kelly Conrad, Matt Garren, Brendan Manklang Kingston, Daralyse Lyons, Stacie Lyons, Tanya Morgan, and Victor Tran returning to the franchise after a long absence.
The Incredible Shrinking Matt & Jaquie will be celebrating their 10th Anniversary during the run with not one, but two chances to see it. This show is not part of our Halloween programming, but it’s a show we are extremely lucky to have on our schedule. Matt & Jacquie are two of the best there is. This show is a sketch class just as much as it is a show as it features some of their best material spanning a decade of laughs.
The Sideshow Halloween Special has been resurrected for the first time since before the pandemic. This comedy variety show will feature all manner of spoopy acts including Septar (sketch), Martha Cooney (storytelling), Nick Gillette (improvised ghost stories), Alejandro Morales (not sure what the act is, but it’s Alejandro so it’s going to be fun), and more TBA.
Study Hall-oween: Comedy Inspired by Spooky Lectures is back for another year! Get into the Halloween spirit with the special, Halloween edition of Study Hall! This night will feature lectures focused on the creepy, the crawly, and all things that go bump in the night. This installment features Cynthia Heffron, Dr. Timaree Schmitt, and more TBA!
GASP! will be making its Crossroads debut with an Improvised Murder Mystery Monoscene. Someone did it and the show will not end until we know who did – or the hour is up. Whichever comes first. Borrowed Time, our indie comedy showcase, will feature Das Team (Nick Gillette, Sam Miller, and Pim Van Huijkelom) and an opener TBA. Not exactly a Halloween show, but you will probably see some scary good improv. You can also get some goosebumps from our student shows! We have class performances from Improv 1, Musical Improv 3, Stand-up 1 and Stand-up 2! If you’re scared of comedy at night, these late afternoon shows are more your speed.
Plenty to see during our October run of shows. Plays and Players Theatre is a historic location, so it’s also possible that Quig’s bar won’t have the only spirits in the building.
