HELP KEEP US GOING!
Crossroads Comedy Theater is now a nonprofit organization! That’s right. Philly finally has a nonprofit alternative comedy theatre company. This means if you donate to our 501(c)(3) company, you can then deduct that donation from your taxes. We can also accept bequests, devises, and transfers or gifts according to the letter received. So, if you know any wealthy philanthropists with a love of the arts and a soft spot for comedy and arts education, let them know about us! We will also accept donations in the form of entire buildings that we can use as a space for classes and performances. Below are our current and ongoing campaigns.
CURRENT PHILLY CAMPAIGN
Crossroads Comedy Theater is raising funds to help offset costs of our live performances from January – March. These performances will include a three day run of shows and workshop at Plays & Players in February, monthly shows at SideQuest Theater, and other performances around town. Shows include Study Hall, a run of our popular Improvised Rom-Com from Not Yet Rated, The Sideshow, Electoral Dysfunction, and more. Performances will take place at the historic Plays & Players Theatre, SideQuest Theater, and other venues around the city. Here’s where your support goes:
-
Venue Rental
We don't have our own space, so we rely on our great venue partners to open up their space to us.
-
Event Staff
Production Coordinator, Tech Operator, and paid part-time event staff. We are looking to add part-time event staff in lieu of volunteers, but will still have openings for volunteers.
-
Performer Payments
We are looking to decouple the payment to performers from ticket sales so they can get an upgraded payment for their talents that is not tied to attendance.
-
Marketing & Publicity
If a show happens and no one is there to see it - does it really happen? Graphic design, digital marketing, publicist, newsletters and more are needed to help get the word out.
-
Affordable Tickets
This would cover comps offered to various groups as well as an allotment of free or pay what you can tickets to each performance. Everyone needs a laugh and money should not get in the way of that.
ONGOING PHILLY CAMPAIGN
Crossroads Comedy Theater is a performing arts and arts education center. Since our formation in 2021, we have trained over 700 students in longform improv, musical improv, stand-up, comedy writing, storytelling, clowning, acting, and more. We have produced over 500 hours of original comedy performances online and on Philadelphia stages. We are one of a handful of comedy theaters in the country that compensates its performers and have paid out nearly $150,000 to local performers, teaching artists, staff, and venue operators.
Crossroads has served as a comedy hub multiple years in the Philly Fringe Festival also appearing each year in Philly Theatre Week. Crossroads runs the Class Clowns Comedy Festival each year featuring educational comedy shows from across the country. Crossroads has also performed at / with various organizations including Drexel University, University of Pennsylvania, Arizona State University, La Salle University, and more. Crossroads also has a yearly show with the Philadelphia Museum of Art around Halloween.
Over the years, Crossroads has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Magazine, Philly Voice, Philadelphia Weekly, Broad Street Review and has been seen on local news with NBC10, PHL17, CBS3, and 6ABC.
We are looking for funding to help cover costs associated with:
-
Ongoing Operations
This includes our current one person admin team, event staff, website maintenance, subscription payments, etc.
-
Crossroads Philly Home
We love all the venues we rent from, but we would absolutely be over the moon to have our own location. This is the single biggest thing holding us back, but we're not rushing into anything. We have a small checklist not the least of which the space needs to be accessible to all and affordable. We are a nonprofit, but nothing in that means we can't be successful.
-
Additional Staff
Crossroads Philly needs someone at the helm that actually lives in Philly. It's tough doing this from 700 miles away. As we grow we would need more positions filled.
-
Student Aid Program
We offer thousands in financial aid and scholarships through the year. We believe in providing access to all people at all income levels. Everyone should get to experience the benefits and fun of a Crossroads class.
-
Keeping Shows Affordable
Prices are going up all over the place. Crossroads is trying to keep things more reasonable as a base price, but also offer discounts, comps, and pay what you can entry on shows. Your donation helps make this possible.
-
Community Partnerships
We routinely partner with museums, libraries, small businesses, and other nonprofit organizations as a reduced rate for performances or workshops. Your donation allows us to do this without while still taking care of ourselves and our staff.
-
And More!
We're a teeny nonprofit with big plans. You can make those a reality.
