The history of what became Not Yet Rated goes back over a decade. Director, Mike Marbach, was directing the Improvised B-Movie with his improv team at the time, Asteroid!, at Philly Improv Theater (PHIT). The Improvised B-Movie was performed from 2011 – 2013 to great reviews, but Asteroid! ended its run and thus the B-Movie with it.
In 2014 Marbach was approached to direct another improvised movie, this one a full hour over the B-Movie’s 30 minute double-feature format. That show would be come Stay Dead! An Improvised Horror Comedy and ran at PHIT from 2014 – 2017.
Not Yet Rated in its current form was created by Marbach in 2017 as a way to expand the improvised movies beyond the horror comedies at Halloween. The show debuted in January 2017 and performed to sold out shows throughout its three year run until the theater closed in March 2020.
Not wanting to miss out improvising horror comedies, Not Yet Rated was adapted and moved to the dark web for October’s Halloween run. The cast has performed in almost 20 shows since! Not Yet Rated will return to the live stage soon, but until then you can enjoy a movie made just for you without leaving the house!
